Luke 3:16 John answered, saying unto [them] all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: Luke 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. Acts 2:1-4 1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an [unknown] tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth [him]; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 1 Corinthians 14:4 He that speaketh in an [unknown] tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Jude1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, 1 Corinthians 14:39-40 39 Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues. 40 Let all things be done decently and in order. Galatians 5:22,23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Tonight at Through His Wounds we are wrapping up our series on the Holy Spirit by praying for baptism of the Holy Spirit. He is so much more than just speaking in tongues. John said Jesus would baptize us with the Holy Ghost. Jesus said the Holy Spirit would lead us into all truth and show us things to come. Jesus told His disciples to go in Jerusalem and wait for the promise of His Father and be endued with power from on high. They got that power and began to speak in tongues. Paul said speaking in tongues was speaking with God. Paul said that when we do it we edify ourselves. He also said when we prophesy we edify others. I feel we need to build ourselves up before we can build up others. Paul said pray in the Spirit for all saints. Jude said build ourselves up in the most holy faith by praying in the Holy Ghost. Paul said do things decently and in order. When we do this according to scriptures we are not doing it to offend others or bring chaos into the church but we are doing it as God meant it to be and this is the fruit that should come out of it; love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. These things should be developed in us so that the church may be built up, strengthened, and more unified. That is why we spent all month focusing on the Person of the Holy Spirit, we dont just want His gifts, we want Him. We want a relationship with Him and if praying in tongues is one of the ways we communicate and build ourselves up to build others up, then in a decent orderly way lets honor this Promise and Power of God our Father in every aspect we can. Those of us coming to the group tonight be in prayer for a move of the Holy Spirit not a move of us or just another church tradition but a real move of the Spirit of God that builds us all up. Those that wont be with us please intercede. Thank you and God bless!!! Steve & Mary Stadler
