Luke was moved back to rehab today from the PICU. He has been there because he had an irritated trachea and some bleeding. He is doing great now. He has a smaller trache in now and is able to use a speaking valve to force sounds around it. It did our hearts good to hear his voice (at least a version of it) today after 3 months!! Lukes diaphragm has shown much improvement on the right side, but the left side does not seem to be moving. The plan is to rehab Luke as much as possible and get him stronger and see if his left side regains function. If not, he will need the strength because they may need to plicate (tack down) the left side if it does not recover in order for his lung to expand. Luke has been off the vent during the day and on very little humidified oxygen during that time. He is walking upright by just holding our fingers. He is so happy and loving in spite of everything that he has endured and continues to experience. He is our hero and a true miracle. The plan is to have him home within 6 weeks or so.
