Lā Hoihoi Ea is a national Holiday for Hawaiians. The day marks - TopicsExpress

Lā Hoihoi Ea is a national Holiday for Hawaiians. The day marks the restoration of the Hawaiian Kingdom following a six month occupation by a British Captain. Needless to say, when Queen Victoria heard about the acts that transpired in 1843, she sent Admiral Richard Thomas (the namesake of Thomas Square) to end the occupation. Four months later, Great Britain (along with France) would grant the Hawaiian Kingdom international recognition. Today, we are occupied by the United States. The actual holiday is on July 31, but because of the occupation, the celebration at Thomas Square cannot be held on that day -- the reason why the celebrations are on July 26.
