L’Wren Scott was discovered dead by an assistant in her 11th Avenue Manhattan apartment, after an apparent suicide. Scott was a model for Chanel and Thierry Mugler before moving to Hollywood in 1994 as a celebrity stylist, where she pioneered the new collaborative relationship between stylists and designers and worked with Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone and Herb Ritts. Her clients included Madonna, Cindy Crawford, Mariah Carey, Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts. She designed costumes for the films Ocean’s Thirteen and Eyes Wide Shut. In 2006, she started her own ready-to-wear label, which expanded into accessories, footwear and eyewear. At the end of last year, she launched an app and last month partnered with Bobbi Brown on a cosmetics line. The designer cancelled her autumn/winter ‘14/’15 show in February, opting to present the collection to buyers and editors. The girlfriend of Mick Jagger since 2001, a spokesperson has said he is “completely shocked and devastated” by the loss. Bianca Jagger, ex-wife of Mick, tweeted: “Heartbroken to learn of the loss of the lovely and talented L’Wren Scott. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. May she rest in peace.” “Rest in peace, LWren Scott. Youll forever be missed,” posted Marc Jacobs. In a statement, US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour said: I am deeply saddened by the loss of LWren Scott. LWren was a total perfectionist, someone who absolutely embodied everything her marvelous clothes stood for: strength of character combined with a confident and powerful style. In person, LWren was always unbelievably generous, gracious, kind, and so much fun. Her old world American manners and charm were from another time, but her sensibility was always fiercely modern. We will all miss her. “This is a horrible and tragic loss. Im so upset. I loved LWrens work and she was always so generous with me,” said Madonna. “There was a delight to her that is hard to imagine extinguished. She didnt reveal another side to me but of course we are all complex as human beings and I wouldnt have claimed to be privy to that other part of late. She had discipline, skill and talent and the recognition was an enormous source of pride for her because she waited so long and worked so diligently,” said Sarah Jessica Parker. Milliner Stephen Jones remarked: “She dazzled her fans with her charming vivacity as much as her exquisitely embroidered dresses. I am proud to have known her and have been able to call her one of my closest friends.” “L’Wren was a great, true friend and human being, a remarkable and gifted talent and it saddens me deeply to know that I won’t see her again,” said Daphne Guinness.
