MAGISTRATE URGES DPP TO SPEED UP MURDER CASE Bobonong magistrate, Ms Goabaone Rammagodi has called on the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) to speed up a murder case involving Tabona Khangelani. Ms Rammagodi said she was worried that DPP was taking long to allocate the case and ordered the prosecuting officer to liaise with the directorate on the matter. The accused, Khangelani aged 26 years, who is facing a single count of murder appeared for mention on Monday (June 2). The particulars of the offence are that in February, 2013 in Bobonong, the accused allegedly murdered his girlfriend, Ms Lesego Kgosidile of Dandane ward. The state prosecutor, Sub Inspector Bessie Kgalemang told the court that the file had long been forwarded to DPP for assessment and allocation and they were still awaiting response. The accused person, however, pleaded with the court to allow him to mention after three months instead of two months as he worked in Gaborone. He will appear for mention in Bobonong court on August 21. In another case, court set June 19, as the trial date of a motor vehicle theft case involving Maphakela Maphakela, 26, of Bolamba ward and Kgosietsile Seodubeng, 22, of Mabumahibidu ward both from Bobonong. The duo is facing a single count of motor vehicle theft. They reportedly acted jointly for the common purpose of stealing a vehicle belonging to Mr Kgosimorago Adamson of Borotsi ward in Bobonong valued at P40 000. The two men who pleaded not guilty to the charge said they intended to represent themselves, while the prosecuting officer was ordered to furnish them with witness statements. The court also set July 17 as a trial date for a case in which Rose Mazebedi is facing six counts of failure to pay wages to workers. The prosecutor, inspector Kgalemang said the prosecution would call eight witnesses. Ms Mazebedi pleaded not guilty to the charge and will represent herself. In separate case of stock theft, Inspector Kgalemang requested court to change trial date of September 9, set for the trio, Molathegi Nyandeni and his co-accused Mompati Kgathi and Julius Makabe since Makabe is still at large. The men are accused of stealing 15 goats worth P10 000 belonging to Ms Josephine Mosumo of Mandelo lands in Bobonong. They will appear for mention on July 14. Magistrate Rammagodi also issued warrants of arrest to Maikano Koonyatse accused of stealing a goat in May last year and Moikothai Osentse accused of stealing a beast in March last year. The two have failed to attend court proceedings concerning their cases. Both men originate from Mathathane. The state represented by Sergeant Tebogo Kehupetse of Baines Drift Police station told the court that the two have been informed of the dates well on time and chose not to attend. (BOPA)
