MAGPIES ARE SO FUNNY! They have this intelligent behavior of trying to fool competitors or potential predators. If they notice that they are being observed in any activity, theyll act, literally act (and lie).. such as seemingly squirreling food in the ground, only to fly away with the food still in its throat pouch. Anyways, just a half hour ago, I was watching this magpie build its nest in a leafless tree. Soon the nest will be hidden within foliage. The magpie saw me observing it, as it threaded a twig into the nest... and then simply dropped the twig, looking at me, like, Hey, Im not building a nest. Go away. Nothing interesting here. Then it squawked non-aggressively, and flew off. They are very clever little birds. Yeah yeah, Im being anthropomorphic with the magpie... but only a tiny bit. They really do plan into the future. And will use their unique talent as actors to fool people and other animals, especially when it comes to food and nesting territory. But thats only part of the story. They grieve big time.
