MAI Reduces Flight Price by Half so that Burmese in Malaysia can Return to Myanmar ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Yangon, June 10 Daw Aye Mra Thar, marketing manager of MAI, has apprised the Voice that even though the Burmese in Malaysia are having financial problems, the International Airline of Myanmar (MAI) will offer a half price discount for flight tickets during the period from June 11th to July 12th. She claims that flights will operate at half price for any Burmese coming back from Malaysia and that they will run five times a week. As inquired from the Burmese in Malaysia, there are some Burmese planning to return to Myanmar these days as a result of the ongoing acts of aggression in Malaysia. “I think there will be fewer people coming back once the violence ends,” said U Thein Htun, who works in a town near Kuala Lumpur. Some workers in Kuala Lumpur claim that Burmese women, in particular, cannot return to their home country any time soon because to do so, they will have to pay compensation as their work contracts have not expired yet. According to the Malaysia based Chinese Cemetery Association of Kepong, since May, the Burmese people in Malaysia have been subject to constant sectarian violence, which has caused the deaths of no fewer than six people and the injuries of about twenty.
