MAKING YOUR OWN ESSENTIAL OIL ANTI-BACTERIAL SPRAY The introduction and widespread use of anti-bacterial products for home use has led to drug-resistant bacteria. These products also kill the good bacteria that are supposed to keep the bad bacteria under control. Lysol is a popular brand of antibacterial spray and I’d guess that your kitchen or bathrooms have seen it at one point or another. In reality, sprays like Lysol are very hazardous to our health. They contain ingredients like formaldehyde, hydrochloric acid, and phenylphenol, a skin, respiratory and mucous membrane irritant and very bad for our environment. When you need to spray your counters or other surfaces, making a homemade, all-natural “antibacterial” spray is easy. Instead of toxic chemicals, use the powers of essential oils. The following essential oils have anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Here is a recipe I am using right now: 1 cup filtered water 5 drops of orange essential oil 3 drops lavender essential oil 2 drops each of eucalyptus and tea tree essential oil Add all ingredients into a spray bottle, shake well. Spray on hard surfaces or countertops. Let dry. Store in a cool, dark place. Simple. Safe. I also spray it into the air throughout the house.
