MANILA -- Malacanang said a tax holiday will greatly affect the countrys economy. This, as employees from the call center industry and other sectors called anew for a tax holiday amid the alleged corruption of the pork barrel. In an interview with radio dzRB, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr. explained taxes are essential for the countrys economy to function properly. As it already is, the Philippines is one of the countries with low tax revenues vis-a-vis the gross domestic product (GDP), he said. He explained a small percentage of the income taxes go to lawmakers pork barrel. A big chunk, on the other hand, is used for actual projects that benefit the country, such as infrastructure, school building projects, social amelioration and poverty reduction programs. Coloma also explained that asking for a tax holiday will create more problems.
