MANSPLAINING OVERHEARD: This morning I overheard an epic example of mansplaining while getting coffee. Dude interrupted a woman he knew who was studying at a table and proceeded to hold forth extensively on all manner of topics. He has a band, which allows him to indulge his creative side and “keep the juices flowing”. He’s playing tonight in the Lower East Side, where he was born and bred. He didn’t get a driver’s license until he was 26 because New York. There followed a detailed lecture on how she should approach her upcoming driver’s license test. Martial arts help keep him focused and calm. She was studying for a French test, and it turns out he knows some Spanish. Thus he launched into a disquisition on his well-honed study habits for learning languages. I don’t think I heard the woman say much more than “wow” and “uhuh” as she was staring at the clock on the wall.
