MANY OF YOU ENJOYED MY RECENT PAPER ... NOW WHAT IS BELOW FOLLOWS ON FROM THAT! THIS IS ANOTHER LIGHT BULB BIG PICTURE POST :) I am about to make a huge claim here .. But it is really hard for me not to make this conclusion: The bible contains a lot of translator bias. Many of the translators of our English bibles are Protestants who believe in the idea that God punished Jesus for our sins to satisfy his wrath and justice so that he could extend mercy to us ... If thats your assumption then this may determine how you interpret key words in the Greek New Testament. What do I mean? 1. The Greek words for forgive and redeem are aphesis and lutron. 2. Now both these Greek words can be translated redeem and forgiveness but thats not all these words actually mean! 3. Both Greek words can mean release liberty deliverance! So what? 4. The word redeem in English means to pay a price. So translators try to get across the idea that Jesus shed his blood to pay a price to God for our sins! Can you see what I am saying? 5. But what if the Greek word actually means set free? Then Jesus dies to set us free from sins power and this doesnt have anything to do with paying God a price for our sins! 6.The same is true for the word forgive. If you believe that sin is an affront on God - then you are going to translate the Greek word aphesis as forgive which means there is an affronted party and a guilty party. So Jesus dies so God can deal with being affronted! Can you see what I am saying? 7. But what if the Greek word aphesis also means release, freedom? Then Jesus does not say Father forgive them but father release them! Totally different! Oh how I wish I had the time to write up some indepth papers and show what these words actually mean in context of the passages where they are used. If a word can have both meanings then translator bias comes into play. How do you conclude which is the right meaning if both are correct? CONTEXT! The unfolding context will show exactly which particular shade of meaning is intended. I just wish I had the time! WHY? Because DAD IS BEING SLANDERED! 1. He does not need to be paid for our sins so that he can forgive us! This all comes from the western religious idea of Penal Substitution. Sorry for this rant and rave!
