MARKET REPORT (May) RAISINS: Encouraged by the possibilities - TopicsExpress

MARKET REPORT (May) RAISINS: Encouraged by the possibilities of a short 2013 crop, growers largely withdrew selling at Izmir Raisin Exchange. Farm prices went up to historic levels. True, this slowed down export sales but considering unsold raisin stocks are well below usual export sales of June/July/august, we should think, farm prices will not retreat. Some growers will wait 2013 crop opening to offer raisins they have. While still early, it seems low bunch count will result in some loss on 2013 crop. Talks of 20% loss are exaggurated as a good part of this will be recovered by bigger size of fruits to be harvested. Hail demage in May, in our opinion, while caused total demage in some farms, will have no measurable effect on total crop. Sales at the end of May were 186.927 tons, at the average fob/ton price of $ 2286. Of these, 6.213 tons were to CANADA, at average fob/ton $ 2.293.
