MARKS BEST MOVIE SONGS EVER (1955-99) COUNTDOWN ... NO. 47 TAMMY–DEBBIE REYNOLDS (#1, 1957, Tammy And The Bachelor) This pretty song written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans proved to be perfect for actress-singer Debbie Reynolds (born Mary Frances Reynolds on April 1, 1932, in El Paso, Texas), who made it a No. 1 hit in August and September 1957 thanks to the movie she starred in, Tammy And The Bachelor, which co-starred a young Leslie Nielsen (1926-2010) as her love interest in a movie set in Mississippi and featuring Reynolds as a 17-year-old living on a houseboat with her grandfather, played by Walter Brennan. One night, the pair save Peter (Nielsen) from a serious plane accident and nurse him back to health until it is time for him to go back home not too far from where they are. He tells the grandfather that if he or his granddaughter need anything, they can reach out to him. When the grandfather is arrested for making moonshine, Tammy is forced to have to find shelter with Peter, who she has become smitten with. It is during a famous scene at wich she reveals her grandfather is in jail that she is thrown out of the house, but Peter and his aunt convince Mrs. Brent (played by Fay Wray) to stay. It is where she sings this beautiful song. This would turn out to be Reynolds only Top 40 hit and it would earn an Oscar nomination for Best Song in 1957. She has been an icon on the silver screen, making close to 70 films, including The Unsinkable Molly Brown, which earned her an Academy Award nomination in 1965. She has been married and divorced three times, most notably to actor Eddie Fisher, and has two children, most notably Carrie Fisher of Star Wars fame. Thoughts, memories? Enjoy!
