MARRIAGE-MORON -- (The double mnemonic here should help, once you get that this isn’t a joke by today’s sophisticated young people who might finally consider marriage at age 35. They consider highschool sweethearts who marry to be MORONS.) In Biblical times, and in certain communities today, middle to late teenagers (whose hormones are spiking) were routinely married off. נער Na’[A]R (young man) and נערה Na’[A]RaH (young lady) not only gave us the M-R “MARRiage” word because of their reaching marriageable age, but their raging hormones gave us the M-R “MORon” word. German Narr is a fool; Yiddish narrishkeit is foolishness (acting like an adolescent). The late-marriage cultures are shrinking fast; so the joke is on them.
