MARS - MAVEN - MANGALYAAN.. Two roads to #Mars For the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), its ISROs Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), which is slated for launch on Tuesday, November 5, will be a maiden journey to the Red Planet. #MAVEN is the next in a long line of Mars missions for National Aeronautics and Space Administration - NASA, but is the first mission devoted to understanding the upper atmosphere of the planet in an effort to solve the mystery of how Mars climate has evolved over time. The two Mars missions, which are scheduled to arrive within a day of each other in late September 2014, have very different objectives and instrument packages, but NASA will support ISROs efforts by supplying communications technologies, the Deep Space Network, and navigation assistance for the MOM mission.
