MATCH REPORT: Katella Knights vs. Century HS at Katella HS - 01/17/14 - V/JV/FS Last Friday before the holiday weekend, Katella hosted the always strong Centurions from Century High School in the second game of the season for Orange League play. This time was no different as the Knights matched them pretty evenly as both the Varsity and Frosh-Soph teams tied while the JV Knights picked up a victory. Through 80 minutes of full time and two 10-minute overtime periods, both the Varsity Knights and Century played to a 0-0 tie. However, just because there were no goals, it was still an exciting game to watch! Although there were plenty of chances to score, it was the Knight defense that shined with Armando Silverio, Carlos Arellano and Hilario Sanabia in the backfield. Goalkeepers Eduardo Sosa and Isaac Martinez combined for the shutout. The Knights are now 8-2-3 overall, and 1-0-1 in league. Across the field, the JV Knights picked up a 3-0 victory. Katella led 2-0 at halftime with the first goal by Daniel Garcia and an assist from Kevin Lopez and the second goal by Abraham Gonzalez. The Knights added one more on a goal by Kevin Lopez while Jaime Villalpando played most of the game in goal getting a shutout. Daniel Garcia was named “Player of the Game.” The JV Knights are now 8-1-2 and 2-0-0 in league. The Frosh-Soph Knights had to fight back from a 2-1 halftime deficit to manage a 2-2 tie against the Centurions. Katella scored first on Hipolito Amador’s goal in the first half and Amador provided the assist for Ricardo Hernandez’s goal to tie the game at 2-2 in the second half. But it was Jose Suarez who was named “Player of the Game” for his goal line save of what would have been Century’s winning goal! The Frosh-Soph Knights are now 4-1-3 for the season and 1-0-1 in league. Both the Varsity and JV Knights are at home tomorrow to face Magnolia High School! Kickoff is 3:15pm. Come on out and get something to eat, have an Italian Ice from Mustache Mike’s, support Katella Soccer and enjoy the game! GO, KNIGHTS!
