MATCH REPORT: SHEFFIELD FC FUTSAL VS @LWFutsalClub by, Joey Winson. ------------------------------------------- SHEFFIELD RUN RIOT IN 17-0 YORKSHIRE DERBY WIN Sheffield FC Futsal 17 Leeds and Wakefield 0 A relentless performance by Sheffield FC Futsal saw them rattle in seventeen goals without reply against Leeds and Wakefield on Sunday. The win in their penultimate game of the FA Futsal League North season sets them up nicely for a decisive final away game against league leader’s Manchester where Sheffield must win to retain their status as Northern champions. Leeds and Wakefield had precious little to play for in this game, their final of the campaign, as they closed out the season in 5th place, out of the top 4 places required to qualify for the Super League. The goal glut began when Jonny Steel picked up an incisive Geovany Simoes pass from the right to finish expertly. 2-0 soon followed when Ben Mortlock’s pass split the Leeds defence for Richard Ward to slot home, before Leeds and Wakefield called a time-out. However, if their discussion was how to stop a Sheffield onslaught it would have had little effect as Sheffield were to go in at the half-time break 9-0 up. A brace from Ollie Byne, goals for Ben Mortlock, Ryon Leyshon and a cracking free-kick from Richard Ward complemented Jonny Steel’s completion of his hat-trick to practically wrap up the game at the midway point. The second half began with Sheffield quickly reaching double figures and a hat-trick for Byne with a powerful finish. The 11th of the afternoon was an unfortunate own goal, then quickly after Ward bagged the 12th scoring from what seemed an impossibly tight angle from the left side. With the game completely sealed up Sheffield began to experiment, withdrawing goalkeeper Ryan Tate to play Simoes as a fly-keeper. The flurry of goals continued for the home side when Leyshon slotted in at the back post for 13-0, then Richard Moore helped himself to a place on the scoresheet with the 14th of the game. Adam Oldham’s dink over the keeper continued the irrepressible rout before Steel notched his fourth and fifth of the match before the final buzzer signalled the end of a hugely one-sided encounter. With table-toppers Manchester beating Derby 8-0 the final game of the season at The National Cycling Centre will be the decisive factor on who not only wins Futsal bragging rights in the North, but also who gets the coveted top seeding slot for the FA National Super League when it kicks off in April.
