MATCH REPORTS Vulcan 1 (Dove) Orford 0 Vulcan 1st Team battled well and got a well deswerved victory in this tough game. With Rigby making his well deserved first start for the 1st Team Vulcan started well and almost took the lead after just 5 minutes when Whitfield won the ball and let a fine long range shot go which was well saved. On 12 minutes Dearden and Hart combined well with Hart cutting into the box and having his shot well saved. The first 15 minutes was even with Taylor, Jones and Rigby working well in midfield, Dearden and Dove doing well out wide and Hart causing havoc up front. The back four of Marsden, Irving, Whitfield and Cotton were rock solid in front of Purnell. On 20 minutes Rigby made a great run down the right and played a fine ball into the box to Dearden who laid the ball back Jones whose shot went just over the bar. Vulcan took a well deserved lead on 31 minutes when a defensive header fell to Dove who calmly sent a fine first time volley past the keeper. Vulcan dominated the remainder of the half. Half Time Vulcan 1 (Dove) Orford 0 No changes Vulcan started the second half well and on 47 minutes a scramble in the Orford box ended with the ball being cleared off the line. Smith replaced Jones on 52 minutes. On the hour Taylor whipped a superb ball across the box where Marsden was unlucky not to put the ball into the net. Vulcan were on top of the game playing great football. Whittle replaced Whitfield on 65 minutes. Dunne replaced Dove on 73 minutes. Vulcan kept pressing looking to extend their lead. Orford became increasingly physical during the last 20 minutes of the game but the Vulcan players, especially Smith, did well not to retaliate. Taylor almost got the second goal on 85 minutes when he hit a magnificent long range free kick which beat the keeper and hit the post. Vulcan kept up the presure until the final whistle to earn a well deserved three points. Leigh Marsden was awarded the Managers Player of the Match with Matty Hart getting the Players Man of the Match. Crosfields 0 Vulcan Reserves 7 (Carrey 4, L Duxbury 2, Blinston ) Vulcan Reserves extended their run of wins with an impressive win at Crosfields. With Carrey drafted in from the 1st Team to give him a full 90 minutes game time the Reserves totally out played their opponents. Goals from Carrey 4, L Duxbury 2, and Blinston secured the points. The reaction from the players, who were disappointed with their performance despite this emphatic win, just goes to show what a superb attitude they are showing at the moment. Mark Carrey was awarded both Managers and Players Man of the Match.
