MATRIMONY- TYING OF THALI OR MINNU This is a practice borrowed from ancient Indian culture. This is adapted by adapted by the churches with lot of meaning and significance and Christian interpretation. The Tali is embedded with sign of cross is tied around the neck of the bride by the bridegroom. The sign of the cross is tied on the Tali reminds us of of the self sacrifice and blood shedding of Christ on the cross. With the Tali the wife indicates her submission and faithfulness to her husband, like the church does in relation to Christ. Mantra Kodi ( the bridal garment) ... The bride bedecked in the brand new beautiful dress dedicated to love and affection and adoened by bridegroom conjures up the picture of the church as a bride dressed up in her glorious and pure white dress awaiting for her loving Lord and savior Christ. This is also indicative of Jesus clothing believers in glory, according to Mar sevaerios and Jacob of Serug of Syrian Church, the heavenly glory and sheen provided her by Christ. This is a pointer to the fact that brides through their inner beauty and spiritual qualities should follow the example of the heavenly bride namely the church and they should please their bride grooms both the earthly made and heavenly bridegroom that is Christ. Taken from The faith and Sacraments of The Mar thoma church. Rev Dr George,Mathew Kuttiyil
