MATTHEW 28: 19 FROM A DIFFERENT ANGLE As Oneness Pentecostals, - TopicsExpress

MATTHEW 28: 19 FROM A DIFFERENT ANGLE As Oneness Pentecostals, what are the two words we always emphasize in Matthew 28: 19? Alright, I’ll answer for you: THE NAME. We are quick to point out (and rightfully so) that Jesus commanded to His disciples to baptize in THE NAME… and then we proceed to preach the name of Jesus. Anyone who has followed my Bible Study page knows I am a huge advocate of teaching about the name of Jesus, and how 2:38 Acts is the fulfillment of Matthew 28: 19. However, today I want to emphasize some totally different words in the same passage, only I want to read it in full context. Let’s take a closer look: Matthew 28: 18 – 20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, ALL POWER is given unto ME in heaven and in earth. 19 GO YE THEREFORE, and TEACH all nations, BAPTIZING them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I AM WITH YOU always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. First of all, ALL POWER is given unto Jesus. You have nothing to be ashamed of when you worship Jesus as the One True God, because He has all power in heaven and earth. Second, Jesus said, “go ye”, which being interpreted is “YOU GO”. He wants YOU to leave your comfort zone and get the message out. Evangelism is not just for “the other guy”. No need looking around the room, He is speaking to you. Third, “THEREFORE” means “because of what I just told you”. Because He has all power, you can therefore boldly go and spread the gospel. Fourth, and of utmost importance, TEACH. It is absolutely the will of God for us to teach the gospel to every creature. Those words could not possibly have just been for the disciples because Jesus knew they had a limited time on earth. Those words are relevant for us today. We are to teach all nations. How do we do this? The most effective way is to make disciples in all nations and have them establish churches and schools and written material. Who would have thought that Jesus would even use the internet to reach into many different parts of the world? Fifth, BAPTIZE. I am tired of hearing the argument that baptism plays no part in Salvation. Jesus did not only command us to teach them, He commanded us to baptize them. (See also Mark 16:16) Finally, Jesus said, “I AM WITH YOU”. It is extremely comforting to rest assured that Jesus is with you through His Spirit which dwells in you. He promised to draw all men to Himself. Your friends, family members, work associates, classmates, neighbors, are being drawn right now because Jesus was in fact lifted up (crucified). (See John 12: 32) What do you say we go fishing for souls? May God bless you and give you great harvest! But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; 20 for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. – Matthew 10: 19, 20 @Back on Track Bible Studies - Rick Flores
