MAVEN NASA’s Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) - TopicsExpress

MAVEN NASA’s Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) spacecraft successfully entered Mars’ orbit at 10:24 p.m. EDT Sunday, Sept. 21,2014. On October 19, 2014 Comet Siding Spring will nearly collide with Mars. MAVEN will be there to catch the show and record valuable scientific measurements. Comet Siding Spring will be expected to interact with the Martian atmosphere. It may result in aurora and a large meteor shower for Mars. For their safety NASAs other Martian orbiters and surface explorers are being maneuvered to the other side of the planet. MAVEN had been designed to explore the effect of external factors such as the Sun upon Mars. Comet Siding Springs occurrence is a bonus research opportunity! This Saturday, September 27, 2014 in Pttsburgh, PA Mars rises at 12:47 PM and sets at 10:01 PM.
