** MAX UPDATE! ** I was relieved to find an email with an update on Max this morning. He is being taken in by a Humane Society and will now be able to find a family the loves him as much he loves them. I wanted to update everyone, I know there were a lot of concerned people. After reading my lengthy rant, the least I could do is let you know how it all turned out :) This email was sent to his owner, the names have been removed... To Max’s Mommy, My name is ****. I want you to know how very lucky you are that the Humane Society may be able take Max. It is only because they had a big adoption event yesterday, and Maxs plight is so critical that they can try to help. Like me, they probably couldnt stand the thought of Max being walked in to a kill shelter to certain, immediate death, after six years of having a family. It is very hard to get a dog in to the Humane Society even though they have capacity for 300+, because they are always very full – and they only take injured dogs. They are doing us a great favor by trying to help him. May was out of options since we only had a weekend to help. God Bless them. Though I am working today – I took a couple hours to write to everyone I knew to help this poor dog – and to put it out on Facebook and share with everyone. I know *** Clark and others did too. I put up $100 and asked my friends to help. Together we gathered $350 to sponsor this dog. We will give this money to the Humane Society. But there will be one less homeless, injured dog we can help because of this. We did this to help Max, for it is apparent that Max has nothing. You said you gave him no attention, have taken all his toys off of him due to “a little toy aggression” with your other dog. (your real dog I guess - the one you love.) You said I know what happens to dogs going to kill shelters and it didnt bother you. You just wanted to be rid of him. Yet you said he is great with your children and other dog. These statements brought more than a few tears to my eyes. How can a dog youve had for 6 years be so valueless - so undeserving of a BIT of love. Dogs are heartbroken and terrified to be left at shelters by their families. Dogs killed in shelters suffer pain as no pain-killers are used. They smell the death around them. They know its coming. They fight and cry and scream to avoid death. Next time you have a dog to get rid of ASAP, please consider taking him to your vet - holding him and telling him you love him as he passes away via euthanization. Give him at least a FEW minutes to believe he was loved. Max is a beautiful, beautiful dog – and I could NEVER give him up. Max - we love you baby!
