MCCs Cultural Science and Social Science Departments are hosting a Whatever Happened To...Series this semester. The series kicks off on September 23, in SC11E at 3 p.m. with Whatever Happened to...China? (Co-Hosted by the International Education Department). mesacc.edu/study-abroad This will be a report on 15 years of the MCC China Study Abroad Program followed by a general discussion. Dr. Effland, an MCC anthropology residential faculty member, will provide an anthropological perspective on social and economic changes that have shaped the China of today. He will explore the implications of the attitude changes that have taken place toward the United States and China’s effort to now move 250 million people from rural villages to cities to create a consumer society. Hear about selling sons in city parks to get a wife or luring Vietnamese women to southern China to get a second wife or pollution that contributes to the closing gap with that infamous 2 degree danger mark.
