MCI final inspection of JNIMS likely in Jan next manipurtimes/news-article/the-peoples-chronicle-news/item/14719 The Medical Council of India will carry out a final inspection of the state-run Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in the last week of January to consider whether to recognize it or not. The decision will also decide the fate of the 497 medical students pursuing respective Under Graduate Medical Course at JNIMS located at Porompat in Imphal East district. The report and recommendation of MCI would also mean to be a new year’s gift to the state government. Sources available to The People’s Chronicle informed the institution needs to be installed with equipment worth Rs 16 crore prior to the final inspection to the MCI. The medical college which was raised by the Ibobi-led Congress government had earlier inspected six times on its infrastructure and manpower. Accordingly, permission for admission of students for 100 MBBS seats was allowed after July 14, 2010. Following that, yearly inspection is being carried out for renewal of permission to admit students. The source also added that the oral and practical examination for the first MBBS batch Part-II is scheduled within January 21 and 24 next year. In relation to the final inspection, JNIMS had deposited a sum of Rs 3 lakhs to the Ministry of Health as per the instructions of MCI. Earlier, the MCI was requested to give their permission to set up eight clinical departments for post-graduate courses for the next academic session of 2015-16, added the source. In this connection, the Council had conducted an Assessment Inspection in September last as well. However, despite the Council’s then report that the institution lacks certain equipment, the government is yet to procure it. Nonetheless, all those required equipment which consist of sophisticated and non-sophisticated instruments will be installed before the final inspection. On purchase of those instruments, it is learnt that in September last tenders including e-tender were opened though as of now none of the instruments have been bought. Figuratively, amount for purchase of sophisticated instruments would be Rs 10.30 crore, while those in the non-sophisticated category would amount to Rs 6.07 crore. Ironically, purchase of the equipment would not be sufficient enough, quality of the instruments would be enquired as well, added the source
