MDC T, FUTURE, A CHOICE BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE. In 1999, MDC T led by Tsvangirai, a former trade union leader, was intoduced to the Zimbabwean nation and offered a nation struggling with growing unemployment , a crippled economy and mass displacement of unemployed people heading back to their rural homes, an opportunity for change, through, the strongest and most viable alternative to Zanu PF and Mugabe rule. Credit where its due, we must always recognise that in the history of Zimbabwe no man has been foolish enough to offer his neck for lynching by Mugabe in such a bravely idiotic manner. It was previously unheard of, to openly do such. Tsvangirai, in his bravery, or rather foolishness, gave the nation the most credible and much needed opportunity for change. The nation rose up in full support for the democratic movement for various reasons but primarily because people wanted Mugabe out at all cost. No one cared who or what replaced Mugabe, as long as he was off the political field and it was such a strong feeling that we can literally agree that, if it meant voting for a tree or baboon just to see Zanu PF and Mugabe off, then the nation was willing to do so. He however suffered massively for opening the nations eyes to the real and possible chance to remove Mugabe and Zanu PF. He has faced, arrests, torture, a road accident in which his wife died, while he almost lost his life and treason charges. Tsvangirai dropped his guard in Monday morning tea parties with Mugabe in the GNU from 2008 to 2013, and subsequently failed to mitigate the possibility of the NIKUV scam 31/07/2013 which shot Mugabe back into full control of government. Zimbabwe, now lacks that 1999, spirit of togetherness, a united front against one enemy and common vision for a better future for the motherland, understandably due to the Zanu PF NIKUV victory, which floored democracy and left many people with the belief that Zanu PF is there to rule for life....FALSE!!!!!!! MDC T has faced a most tumultuous time with respect to internal struggles over the last 2 months, as compared to any other time in the 15 year history of Tsvangirais short lived political ambition to rule Zimbabwe, a dream cut short in its prime by Zanu PF, NIKUV victory on 31/ 07/ 2013. From that moment on, its been downhill for Morgan Tsvangirai, with calls for him to step down as party leader because of an undeniably damaged political image, primarily because of his shortcomings in taking on a criminally minded Zanu PF in an election deemed to be lopsided in favour of Mugabe due to a flawed electoral process. Against well placed advice, not to participate in an election unless underlying issues were addressed, he went ahead and participated. In hindsight this has turned out to be a historical blunder in which he has clearly become the chief architect of his own downfall, in that, his shortsightedness, legitimised an unconstitutional Zanu PF government and gave Mugabes power over a nation tired of his government, the mandate to rule until 2018. This shortsighted decision, dissapointed not only MDC T but all opposition, and even those in Zanu PF and yet scared to raise their objections to endless oppressive rule by their own party. The disappointment was exacerbated by Tsvangirais chaotic domestic love life splashed out for public consumption in all media, with scandal after scandal about the women in his life, all arising soon after the NIKUV victory. As if this was not enough, MDC T has also, of late been been rocked with violence. The MDC T Secretary General, Tendai Bitis house was petrol bombed and the Deputy Treasurer General, Elton Mangoma was assaulted by MDC T party youth. The blame lies squarely upon Tsvangirais shoulders as MDC T leader, for the anarchy, loss of control, direction and inability to reign in, his blood thirsty hounds, who are chillingly displaying typical Zanu PF tactics. The MDCT Deputy Treasurer General, Mangoma, MDCT Treasurer, Roy Bennett, former Marondera Central legislator Ian Kay and former Harare mayor Elias Mudzuri, have all conceded that Tsvangirai has to step down. Financiers are increasingly, growing concerned about the state of the MDC T and have voiced their concerns about the former prime ministers continued leadership of the MDC T party, with the Botswana President Mr Khama, phoning Tsvangirai last month and advising him to step down for the good of the party. Now its reported that, American Billionaire, Soros, believed to be one of the main financiers of the party, phoned Tsvangirai last month during the same period as Khama and called for him to step down. Some Western diplomats, including the British Ambassador to Zimbabwe Ms Deborah Bronnert, are also reported to, have told Morgan Tsvangirai to step down. Ms Bronnert is said to have justified her meeting with Tsvangirai, as normal practice for the British Ambassador to meet with representatives from across the political spectrum but would not be drawn into discussing the subject of the meeting, stating ...The leadership of political parties is not an issue for the UK government, we do not have a position on this matter. The UK remains committed to supporting the aspirations of the Zimbabwean people for a more democratic, stable and prosperous Zimbabwe. A vibrant political scene, with an opposition and civil society, is part of that. Last week, it was also reported that Tendai Biti, Roy Bennet and key figures in the MDC T party, who call the shots, as they control the purse strings, met up in South Africa and were discussing the formation of a breakaway party. The nation awaits full details and updates about what exactly transpired as they are keeping it all close to chest. We are all aware that leadership issues are generally resolved in a partys congress and the MDC T congress is due in 2016. However given the total disillusionment of MDC T supporters locally and in the diaspora, along with financiers being disgruntled by the tainted brand ,and Tsvangirais damaged personal and political profiles, then its imperative, to now, contemplate an emergency congress, for the good of democracy, the nation and the ability to draw funding through key financiers, when faced with a criminally minded Zanu PF gang of filthy rich black oppressors of blacks, looting national resources and wealth under the guise of nationalisation, indeginisation and black empowerment, clearly, all politically correct terms for legalised crime and corruption. After losing three successive presidential elections to Mugabe, Tsvangirai must establish a worthy legacy, by ensuring that MDC T, restrategise as a matter of urgency, recover what they can from an already damaged brand and rebuild the hugely disgruntled and disillusioned democratic support base, into a united front, and pave the way for democracy. This is the only credible way fro MDC T to feature as a party of relevance or worthy of Zanu PF note in 2018. If this means Tsvangirai has to step down, so be it. Let there be an early congress and let the peoples voice resonate in a democratic vote on leadership. Failure to resolve this crisis as a matter of priority, will relegate MDC T to the political archives of Zimbabwes history where opposition generally end,...case in point,..ZUM! If MDC T do not acknowledge that Tsvangirai who has led the party since its inception in 1999, is now , widely viewed as having nothing credible to offer MDC T in securing election victory, and in a sense, now a major liability to the party, then they put their future and existence at risk, as they face losing a powerful support base and funding. With the free for all political arena that we see developing in Zimbabwe, as party after party lands on the political stage, it takes a party with vision, powerful leadership and the ability to unite an oppressed people to rekindle the drive to wrestle power from a despot Zanu PF government. The potential is there, and all thats needed is the ability to tap into the resources on the ground, which is the disgruntled democratic Zimbabwean community. In as much as Tsvangirai landed on stage, primarily on the strength of peoples disgruntlement with Zanu PF and Mugabe, we can equally argue that disgruntlement with him is a strong basis for a vibrant, untainted player to rally the people forward and steer clear of the prevailing MDC T anarchy, loss of control, direction and inability to reign in, the blood thirsty hounds, who are chillingly displaying typical Zanu PF tactics. MDCT Deputy Treasurer Genera, Mangoma, MDCT Treasurer, Roy Bennett, former Marondera Central legislator Ian Kay and former Harare mayor Elias Mudzuri, have all waded into the call for leadership change by concededing that Tsvangirai has to step down. Financiers are increasingly, growing concerned about the state of the MDC T and have voiced their concerns about , the former prime ministers continued leadership of the MDC T party, with the Botswana President Mr Khama, phoning Tsvangirai last month and advising him to step down for the good of the party. Now its reported that, American Billionaire, Soros, believed to be one of the main financiers of the Western-sponsored party, is said to have phoned Mr Tsvangirai last month during the same period as Khama and called for him to step down. Some Western diplomats, including the British Ambassador to Zimbabwe Ms Deborah Bronnert, are also reported to, have told troubled MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai to step down. Ms Bronnert is said to have justified her meeting with Tsvangirai as normal practice for the British Ambassador to meet with representatives from across the political spectrum but would not be drawn into discussing the subject of the meeting, stating ...The leadership of political parties is not an issue for the UK government, we do not have a position on this matter. However given the total disgruntlement by MDC T supporters locally and in the diaspora, along with financiers being disgruntled by the tainted MDC T brand and Tsvangirais damaged personal ad political profile, for the good of democracy, the good of the nation and progress alongside key financiers. After losing three successive presidential elections to Mugabe, Tsvangirai must ensure MDC T, restrategise as a matter of urgency, recover what they can from an already damaged brand and rebuild the hugely disgruntled and disillusioned democratic support base, into a united front, and pave the way for democracy. For MDC T, to feature as a party of relevance or worthy of Zanu PF note in 2018, there is need for a complete overhaul, brutal to say the least at the start but best in the long term and if f this means Tsvangirai must step down, so be it or else the nation will be stuck in another endless political cycle of Zanu PF , Animal Farm style antics. After 34 years of it, we are either typical suckers for drama or just foolish. Prove we are different! Let there be an early congress and let the peoples voice resonate in a democratic vote on leadership. Failure to resolve this crisis as a matter of priority, will relegate MDC T to the political archives of Zimbabwes history where all former opposition have always ended,...case in point,..ZUM! Do MDC T keep or dump Tsvangirai?....The MDCT future is certainly a choice between a rock and a hard place. In my humble opinion, we are where we are, because, Tsvangirai, in his bravery or foolishness rather, challenged Mugabe in a manner tatamount to the biggest death wish ever, post independance, managing to tame Mugabe, the nations most feared threat to life. Mugabe is typically the equivalent of a vicious snake, drained of its poison by Tsvangirai but the snakes bite can still pack a good punch and therefore its time to relieve Tsvangirai of the reigns and bring in deadly hunters for the big kill and finish what we started. If MDC T do not acknowledge that Tsvangirai who has led the party since its inception in 1999, is now , widely viewed as having nothing credible to offer MDC T the chance of ever winning elections, and a major liability to the party, then they put their future and existence at risk. They face losing a powerful support base and funding. With the free for all political arena that we see developing in Zimbabwe as party after party lands on the political stage, it takes a party with vision, powerful leadership and the ability to unite an oppressed people and rekindle the drive to wrestle power from the despot Zanu PF government. The potential is there, and all thats needed is the ability to tap into the resources on the ground, ie disgruntled democratic supporters. In as much as Tsvangirai landed on stage, primarily on the strength of peoples disgruntlement with Zanu PF and Mugabe, we can equally argue that disgruntlement with him is a strong basis for a principled, untainted leader to take charge and rally a vibrant opposition forward against Zanu PF.
