MEANWHILE ... IN GUAM .... ANOTHER WHALE LEAVES THE SEA !!! O MYyyy ... A BIG 20 TON ... 38 FEET WHALE ~ DEAD !!! WTF man .... HOW SAD .... 8 AUG 2014 Big dead whale left on Guam shore to decompose ... HAGATNA, Guam (AP) — Residents in a small village in Guam are being advised to stay away from a nearly 40-foot dead whale that is decomposing on a beach. Mayor Carol Tayama says the decision has been made to leave the whale where it is to decompose on the shore Agat. That process has been ongoing, and it would have been difficult to move the carcass in its current condition, the Pacific Daily News reported (is.gd/LTqdpg). Its very sensitive right now, and it will keep falling apart if they touch it, she said. The whale is 38 feet long and weighs about 20 tons. It washed ashore sometime last week, and local fishermen found it Saturday, the Guam Environmental Protection Agency said. The carcass at first was bloated and emitting a bad smell, but most of that had dissipated by Thursday. Much of what remains of the whale is just skin, Tayama said. Tayama said people shouldnt go near the whale since even dead whales can pass disease on to humans. Thats another reason why a plan to cut up the whale into smaller pieces was shelved. Authorities say its against federal law to remove any part of the whale, either dead or alive. Were asking people to be patient and bear with it, Tayama said. In the meantime we apologize for the inconvenience. ____ Information from: Pacific Daily News: guampdn news.yahoo/big-dead-whale-left-guam-shore-decompose-194607660.html?soc_src=copy ================================== Guam is an organized, unincorporated territory of the United States in the western Pacific Ocean. It is one of five U.S. territories with an established civilian government. Guam is listed as one of seventeen Non-Self-Governing Territories by the Special Committee on Decolonization of the United Nations. The islands capital is Hagåtña (formerly rendered Agana). Guam is the largest and southernmost of the Mariana Islands. The Chamorros, Guams indigenous people, first inhabited the island approximately 4,000 years ago. The island has a long history of European colonialism, beginning with Ferdinand Magellans Spanish expedition landing on March 6, 1521. The first colony was established in 1668 by Spain with the arrival of settlers including Padre San Vitores, a Catholic missionary. For more than two centuries Guam was an important stopover for the Spanish Manila Galleons that crossed the Pacific annually. The island was controlled by Spain until 1898, when it was surrendered to the United States during the Spanish–American War and later formally ceded as part of the Treaty of Paris. Guam is the largest island in Micronesia and was the only U.S.-held island in the region before World War II. Guam was captured by the Japanese on December 8, 1941, just hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and was occupied for two and a half years. During the occupation, the people of Guam were subjected to acts that included forced labor, torture, beheadings, and rape, and were forced to adopt the Japanese culture. Guam was subject to fierce fighting when U.S. troops recaptured the island on July 21, 1944, a date commemorated every year as Liberation Day. Today, Guams economy is supported by its principal industry, tourism, which is composed primarily of visitors from Japan. Guams second largest source of income is the United States Armed Forces. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guam
