***Apply to a New Hope rescue to save Nicole tonight!*** A volunteer writes: What is to think, what is to be said…about a dog we do not know, found as a stray and now , in our care and confined to a kennel ? Nicole has already spent 4 days with us and has remained almost as scared as she was the day she arrived at the care center. She is at her door, her eyes wide open and crouches when I kneel in front of her. I talk to her and put some roast beef near her that she eats when I do not look..I open her den. She retreats behind her bed but lets me leash her without a growl or anything untoward. Her tail is between the legs. We walk and walk the yard and sat , I on a bench, Nicole at my feet. She is a small thing at 34 pounds, wrapped in a cute cow print coat.She has likely been a mother. Her weight is decent. She almost jumps at sudden noises and flinches when I touch her body. She does not take any treats. She does not pay attention to any dogs passing by. She is frozen in time and space, seeing and hearing things but not processing anything. Will Nicole ever let us in ? Will she ever, even whisper a bit of her feelings that would make us understand her a little better? Will there ever be a breakthrough event, here at the care center, that will unveil the realNicole?We have to keep trying, hope and dream that someone will see her distress and take a chance at rescuing her. We all know that there is another Nicole behind the mask of fear and sadness.Will you be the one to lift the curtain and offer Nicole the life of a cherished forever best friend ?
