MEDIA ALERT ♦♦ MEDIA ALERT ♦♦MEDIA ALERT Microscope 1824 Debuts Second Show with Ian Anderson’s Tralfamadorian Exhibit Houston-based artist Ian Anderson brings photo-realistic painting to a sculptural work in his creation, Tralfamadorian Exhibit. The sculpture piece is loosely based on the ideas of author Kurt Vonnegut and the journey of his character, Billy Pilgrim, in his book, Slaughterhouse-5 . Anderson’s piece is the latest installation in the tiny 8ft x 10ft Microscope 1824 Gallery at Spring Street Studios. The exhibit opens Saturday, September 21st and will be on view through November. The Tralfamadorian piece took shape over a nine month period from conception to completion. Ian set out to show the span of a person’s life without the “inconvenience” of time. His finished work is a composite of Billy Pilgrim, friends, family and the artist himself. Anderson wrote in his artist’s statement about the project “I hope I have honored a great author and presented something new and unique. It has not been my intention to illustrate a part of one of my favorite novels but rather, to explore an idea with one of my favorite science fiction writers”. Ian Anderson was born in Denver, Colorado, but grew up in Houston. He has trained at the Otis College of Arts & Science and at the Glassell School of Art under Patrick Palmer. His work has been shown in the Darke Gallery and can be seen every second Saturday of the month at his studio at Winter Street Studios. The micro scope project, an Invest in Houston venture curated by David A. Brown and Michael Crowder, is all about experimental spaces for installation-based work. The first project site, micro scope 1824, is located at Spring Street Studios -1824 Spring Street, Houston, TX 77007. The 8x10 ft space will be the site of several more experimental installations this year from artists including Ian Anderson, Mark Masterson and Monica Vidal For more information please visit: microscopeproject springstreetstudios.info investinhouston.org For Media Inquiries Please Contact: Sara Jackson Kenektid Public Relations studioprsubmissions@gmail (281)455-7033
