MEDIA RELEASE - Castle Cove Park Master Plan Moves Forward Willoughby Council has adopted a revised Master Plan for Castle Cove Park which outlines the long-term management and development of the Park’s land use and facilities. The Master Plan, which aims to increase the ‘village green’ atmosphere of the park, includes new picnic facilities, sports lighting and a circuit path around the oval, as well as improvements to the playground, BMX track, sportsground drainage and the parking arrangements around the park. The picnic area will be upgraded to include a new picnic shelter, recycling bins, bicycle racks and accessibility features like wheelchair graded paths and an equal access drinking fountain. The main park entrance from Holly Street will be formalised with clear entry markers for increased visibility, and secondary entrances on Holly Street and Headland Road will also receive improvements like steps and footpaths for better access. Lighting will be installed at Sportsfield No.2, to be used for maximum of three nights per week between the hours of 5pm and 9pm. As part of a one year trial, off-leash dog hours will also be extended by one hour each side of existing times, when sportsgrounds are not in use by sports teams. The first Master Plan action to be undertaken will be the installation of fixed marker posts and logs to clearly indicate the boundaries of the existing BMX track. The markers will be installed within 60 days of the Master Plan’s adoption on 20 May. “We are constantly seeking to improve facilities and offer new recreational opportunities to our residents. These works will enhance the offerings at Castle Cove Park, especially for families and teenagers, while still protecting the bushlands and peaceful community way of life in Castle Cove and the Willoughby area in general,” said Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly. The Master Plan is available on Willoughby Council’s website. - Ends -
