MEDIA RELEASE #34 July 9, 2013 Regarding: Disaster Recovery Program – Registration Sites Location: MD of Foothills #31 The MD of Foothills remains under a State of Local Emergency. EMERGENCY OPERATION CENTRE Should you need to contact the EOC in relation to flood-related issues occurring within the MD of Foothills, please utilize the following contacts between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm Monday to Friday: Emergency Operations Center: 403-603-3571 Media Inquiries: 403-603-6315 All inquiries for the EOC outside of these hours: 1-888-808-3722 DISASTER RECOVERY PROGRAM – REGISTRATION SITES The Government of Alberta is providing disaster financial assistance for Albertans with property damage caused by unprecedented flooding. When visiting the Government of Alberta’s website at alberta.ca you will notice that the MD of Foothills is not specifically listed on the communities that are eligible for the Disaster Recovery Program. PLEASE BE ASSURED THAT THE MD OF FOOTHILLS IS INCLUDED IN THE DISASTER RECOVERY PROGRAM, WHICH INCLUDES ALL COMMUNITIES THAT EXPERIENCED FLOODING IN JUNE 2013. Registration Dates and Locations: July 6 – 16, 2013: High River – Welcome Center (High River Ag Society Rodeo Grounds) High River – The Foothills Youth Foundation (1204 – 10 St. SE) July 2 – 16, 2013: Calgary – Roderick Mah Centre for Continuous Learning (Mount Royal University – 4825 Mount Royal Gate SW) July 8 to 9, 2013: Bragg Creek – Bragg Creek Community Centre (23 White Ave.) MD of Foothills residents are welcome to register at any of the Disaster Recovery Program registration locations. ** Additional dates and locations will be announced by the Province of Alberta. There will be more than one opportunity to apply in the coming weeks and months. PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT FLOOD INFORMATION CONTACT NUMBER The Province of Alberta has a new contact number for flood related inquiries. Please call 403-310-4455. BOIL WATER ADVISORY A boil water advisory has been issued for the Hamlet of Cayley. The water supply to Cayley has been re-connected to it’s normal source, which is the Town of High River. The MD of Foothills is unsure of the quality of the water within water lines at present and, as a precaution and in conjunction with Alberta Health Services, is advising all residents of Cayley to boil water until such time as water tests come back negative for bacteria. Alberta Health Services recommends that you treat your drinking water by heating the water to a rolling boil for one minute before the water is used for drinking, food preparation or dental care. As an alternative to boiling water, residents may consider the use of bottled water or an alternate water supply from a safe source. FLOOD CLEAN UP KITS Flood clean up kits are available to MD of Foothills residents for pick up at the Aldersyde Shop located at 410038 – 81 Street E. (Just off Hwy 2a at Aldersyde). Kits will be available Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, drop in at the main reception desk to request your kits. MD OF FOOTHILLS ADMINISTRATION The MD of Foothills is open for business. Our Administration Offices have temporarily relocated to: • Mullen Trucking • 100 – 80079 Maple Leaf Road East, Hamlet of Aldersyde • Telephone: 403-652-2341 The public are welcome to attend this location for: ➢ Building permits ➢ Planning and Development Applications / Information ➢ Taxes / Assessment Information ➢ Finance Please note: the mailing address remains unchanged for the MD of Foothills: 309 Macleod Trail, Box 5605 High River, AB T1V 1M7 STRUCTURAL ASSESSMENTS Should you require a detailed structural assessment of a residence or structure in the rural MD of Foothills, please contact Ken McKay at the MD Administration Office at 403-652-2341 to make arrangements. OKOTOKS FOOD BANK The Okotoks Food Bank had advised that they are currently full with donations of non perishable foods. The Food Bank is still taking monetary donations that will be used to purchase necessary items. Please note that the Okotoks Food Bank may also be accessed by residents of the MD of Foothills who require this type of assistance. HEALTH CARE FACILITIES The High River Hospital remains closed at this time. Residents requiring medical assistance can access 24 hour medical care at either the Black Diamond Hospital or Okotoks Urgent Care. EXTENDED REGIONAL LANDFILL HOURS Due to the increased need for landfill services due to the flooding, the Regional Landfill has extended it’s hours from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm daily. LANDFILL TIPPING FEES Landfill tipping fees are being waived for MD of Foothills residents who are hauling their own flood-related debris to the landfill. To qualify for this exemption, MD residents must provide to the landfill their legal land description / rural address and identification to authenticate your residency in the MD of Foothills. Contractors hauling on behalf of MD of Foothills residents’ will not qualify for this exemption. If you are billed for tipping fees by a contractor, please be aware that you may be able to request compensation for these charges through the Provincial Disaster Recovery Program. RHINO BAGS FOR REFUSE REMOVAL Please note…..these Rhino bags are being supplied by the MD of Foothills for ratepayers who live within the MD of Foothills only. These dumpster bags can be loaded with up to 1 tonne of refuse / debris for removal. These bags can be picked up at the MD ALDERSYDE SHOP (410038 81St. E- Highway 2A at Aldersyde) Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on regular business days. THERE IS A LIMIT OF 2 BAGS PER MD RESIDENCE. You will be required to provide your name, legal land description / rural address and identification to authenticate your residency within the MD of Foothills to qualify for these free refuse bags. The MD will arrange for pick up of full Rhino Bags in the days ahead, when resources become available. MD ROAD AND BRIDGE CLOSURES MD of Foothills Public Works crews are hard at work repairing damaged roads throughout the municipality. Please obey all cautionary traffic signs and give our crews room to work safely. Please visit the MD of Foothills website at mdfoothills for a comprehensive listing of all roads and bridges that are closed or currently under repair. WATER WELL TESTING KITS Water well test kits are available for pick up for MD of Foothills residents, at the Heritage Pointe Firehall, Black Diamond Hospital and the Okotoks Urgent Care Centre.
