MEDIA RELEASE For Immediate Release: December 16, 2014 Australian Brotherhood of Fathers #21fathers Campaign January 8, 2015 – The Australian Brotherhood of Fathers (ABF) continues its #21fathers campaign to highlight the national suicide rate for separated fathers. On average, three fathers nationally commit suicide every day, averaging 21 per week. Out of six suicide deaths per day in Australia, the ABS statistics suggest, five are men with reports suggesting as many as 3 of those 5 are fathers dealing with family access issues. ABF suggests this number in part relates to bias shown toward noncustodial fathers that are victims of a child access and support system that places money before family. Fathers are regularly restricted from contact with their kids while being subjected to unfair financial pressures or false allegations of abuse. Court rulings are typically in favor of women looking for monetary gain and sole parenthood. With the #21fathers campaign, ABF is calling on national agencies to change how separated families are dealt with. An image specific to the campaign is available to share on social media depicting a white circle with the 21 in its center. In addition, the ABF has realesed a range of branded products to help with awareness and fundraising that will go toward the organization’s events across Australia. ABF #21fathers social media campaign is ongoing. Promoting pro-family ideals that will lead to a change in policy that fixes the legislation for the future of Australian families.
