MEDIA STATEMENT-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TUESDAY, 20 MAY, 2014 NEHAWU CONGRATULATES THE TRADE UNION LEADERS ELECTED TO SERVE IN NATIONAL AND PROVINCIAL PARLIAMENTS NEHAWU congratulates and wishes well ,all the trade union leaders, who have been elected to serve in our country’s National Parliament or Provincial Legislatures. We especially congratulate our union leaders and former leaders ,who have been entrusted with the responsibility to serve the broader South African community. Our union will be releasing four of its national leaders to national parliament and provincial legislatures. We also wish well our former leaders Cde Dan Sebabi, former NEHAWU Provincial Secretary and Cosatu Provincial Secretary in Limpopo and Cde David Makhura the former NEHAWU Deputy General Secretary, who will be taking over as the Premier of Gauteng. These leaders are following the long tradition of NEHAWU leaders like Bheki Mkhize, who have served the nation at all levels. We are confident that they will give a voice to the working class issues and raise the red flag with integrity and discipline. We are happy that, we have successfully and continue to implement the Cosatu resolution of swelling the ranks and adhered to the working class strategy of fighting inside and outside government. We are releasing hardworking and well-rounded cadres, who are politically clear and have every confidence in their abilities. The union will miss their purposeful leadership and their experience but we embrace and live for change and progress as revolutionaries. Fortunately for us, we are a worker controlled organization not a fiefdom that is dominated by one person or a group. As a worker’s union, we have mastered the art of keeping the balance between continuity and change. We are not fishing from a shallow pool of leadership but have the one of the most experienced NEC’s and CEC’s in the trade union movement. We will continue to be not only a formidable workers organisation but a political university that produces leaders to lead both the working class organisations and the entire nation. Our union will be convening a Special National Congress on the 06th of June 2014, to fill the vacant posts left by the departing comrades. The current and former leaders going to parliament is as follows: Cde Filkile (Slovo) Majola, General Secretary of the National Education Health and Allied Workers Union. Cde Pulani Mogotsi, NEHAWU National Treasurer and COSATU Gauteng Provincial Treasurer. Cde Priscilla (Thozama) Mantashe, NEHAWU 2nd Deputy President. Cde Joe Mpisi, 1st Deputy President of NEHAWU. Former leaders Cde Dan Sebabi, {Former NEHAWU Limpopo Provincial Secretary}, COSATU Provincial Secretary. Cde David Makhura {Former NEHAWU Deputy General Secretary}.
