MEET STAR!!! (FOSTER NEEDED!!) Sweet little Star was surrendered to DT6 during our vaccination day on Saturday. She was purchased from a person in the West Dallas area and the new parents brought her to the vaccination clinic for her vaccinations, as they lived near by. When our veterinarians examined her, they became very concerned about her health and suggested she be seen right away by a veterinarian in a clinic environment. Potential diagnosis was parvo. Folks, she looked terrible. After visiting with her owner about what needed to happen next, she decided to surrender Star so that we could provide proper veterinary care. The daughter was sad to give up her puppy but understood that the puppy was sick and needed help. We advised the mother that if she wanted a pet, to visit Dallas Animal Services. It was explained that the pets adopted from DAS already have vaccinations, are spayed/neutered and even have a microchip!! Star was taken to Dr. Farr at City Vet White Rock where she was on stand by to receive her. After a few tests, it was concluded that Star did not have parvo. Star had so many intestinal parasites that her tiny little body could no longer cope. Yes, intestinal parasites left untreated, can kill a puppy!! This sweet little girl who must have been miserable, was given a dewormer, placed on IV fluids and given additional medications to help her situation. She is also being tested and treated for ringworm, as a precaution. Today, little Star is recovering and starting to get a little twinkle back in her eyes. Her tiny tail wagged a hundred miles an hour even though she was feeling as icky as icky could feel. Sweet sweet baby.
