MEET THE CREW: Brook Anderson, Deckhand on The Steve Irwin. Brook has shared a few insights with us that wed like to share with you! *Country of Origin: Australia *Position: Deckhand *Time spent on Sea Shepherd Ships: 5 months *Previous job before Sea Shepherd: Student *Favourite ocean animal: Water Bears (Tardigrades) *Most memorable moment on the ships: Emerging from cleaning the final fuel tank on the last day of dry dock. The feeling of accomplishment and relief coupled with exhaustion and pride to be part of such a dedicated crew. At 10:30 pm we squeezed out of the cold, dark, smelly, tanks through a manhole large enough for one person to awkwardly maneuver out of horizontally. Our ‘Tank Team’ was comprised of a deck team, an engineering team, and a chief cook. It was truly the best moment of my Sea Shepherd experience – to be a part of the absolute dedication, commitment and cohesion that this very special crew has. *Reason to join the ships: After finishing a marine science degree all I wanted was to try and contribute to increased conservation of our marine ecosystems, But I soon realized that in our present time change isn’t going to come through science or protest, but rather through direct action, and the changing of public perceptions. Thus I abandoned my plans of furthering my university education to be an active part of the Sea Shepherd movement. If you would like to support Brook and the rest of our crew and the ships, please visit my.seashepherd.org.au/dac Help us to keep our ships at sea, fighting for our ocean! Thank you for your ongoing support! #SeaShepherd
