MELBOURNE-BASED COUPLE REGISTER AS OVERSEAS VOTERS AT PHL CONSULATE GENERAL IN SYDNEY 13 May 2014 - A Filipino couple based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia—Mr. Michael Henry Yusingco and Ms. Carmencita Esquivel—visited the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney on May 7 and became the Consulate’s first clients to register as overseas voters for the 2016 Philippine national elections. Mr. Yusingco is a lawyer and author who is taking up a Master’s degree in Law and Development at the Melbourne Law School at the University of Melbourne while his wife is a medical doctor working at the Austin Hospital in Heidelberg, Victoria. The couple are thankful that they can still participate in the elections even though they are already overseas. They lived in New South Wales prior to their stay in Melbourne. Mr. Yusingco earlier donated to the Consulate’s Rizaliana Collection an early edition of a biography of Dr. Jose Rizal, written by Rafael Palma in Spanish, which has been in his family’s possession for a long time. The Consulate’s Administrative Officer, Mr. Jose Jacinto Morales, was first to register at the Consulate on May 6. Having arrived in Sydney just last year to assume his duties at the Consulate, Mr. Morales registered as an overseas voter to be able exercise his right to vote during the 2016 elections. END
