METAMORA ~ Etta Sue Stanley, 77, of Metamora, passed away at 12:55 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014 at the home of her daughter in Marquette Heights. Born April 10, 1937 in Cherokee County, North Carolina to Charles and Laura (Bruce) Lovingood, she married John M. Stanley on April 30, 1966 in Pekin. He died May 28, 1983 in Metamora. Her parents also preceded her in death. Surviving are one daughter, Melissi (John) Cravens of Marquette Heights; one step-daughter, Beverly Womack of Missouri; three step-sons, Johnny Ray (Donna) Stanley and Jerry Stanley, both of Missouri, and Ronnie (Ivie) Stanley of East Peoria; three grandchildren, Brittni Bowers, Jacob Bowers, and Nathan Bowers; fifteen step-grandchildren including Brandi (Derrick) Perry of Peoria and Johnny Stanley of Georgia, who she helped raise; one great-granddaughter, Leilani Stanley-Surratt; several step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ida Hendricks of Altona; and one brother, Charles Lovingood of Rogersville, Tennessee. Sue and her husband, John, owned and operated the Glee Club in East Peoria and following his death she continued to operate the club, retiring in 1996 with more than 35 years. She later worked at the Walmart Super Center in East Peoria as a cashier for over 15 years, last working in July of 2013. She was a charter member of Northwest Baptist Church in Peoria. Sue enjoyed going out to eat with friends on the first Monday of the month. She also enjoyed socializing with her co-workers and friends at both Walmart and the Glee Club. Her funeral will be at noon Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. Pastor Richard Springsteen will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home Further visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home in Madisonville, Tennessee, where a service will follow at 3 p.m. Burial will be at Hiwassee Church of God Cemetery in Madisonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4234 North Knoxville Avenue, Peoria, IL 61614.
