MH 370- Hishammuddin says China received satellite images of new possible debris from MH370 The search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 is expected to intensify following new information from the Chinese authorities that they have satellite images which show possible debris from Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 in the southern corridor. Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein made the impromptu announcement after getting a handwritten note with the latest information at the daily press conference at Sama Sama Hotel in Sepang this evening. He said the Chinese authorities are expected to make an official announcement on the latest satellite images in a couple of hours. China’s embassy in Kuala Lumpur advised Malaysian authorities of the sighting today, and Chinese ships and planes were heading towards the area. A statement issued from the Transport Ministry clarified that the suspected floating object captured by the Chinese satellite was 22.5 metres by 13 metres, not 22 metres by 30 metres, as stated in the press conference. Hishammuddin announced the finding after being handed the note when he said he was concerned about a category one cyclone forming near Australia’s remote Christmas Island. According to Hishammuddin, ships from China and other nations joining the search may have to pass through the danger area. The statement said the information was received by phone during the press conference, and was initially misheard. This is coming to me as quick as you are seeing on TV right now, said Hishammuddin, adding that he was concluding the briefing early in order to follow this lead. I do not have any more details, let me investigate further and I will inform you. Two days ago, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced that two objects possibly related to the search for the missing aircraft have been sighted in satellite images. Following the information, search teams rushed to the area with Australia coordinating the hunt, focusing on an area of wild and remote sea 2,500 kilometres southwest of Perth. However, nothing has been sighted in the desolate area despite 15 sorties by Australian, American and New Zealand surveillance aircraft. It was earlier reported that search teams were focusing on two search corridors – one to the north and the other to the south – as the plane is said to have continued flying for seven hours after its last known position. The northern corridor stretched from the border of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to northern Thailand, while the southern corridor stretched from Indonesia to the southern Indian Ocean. – March 22, 2014.
