MHP Tulak Tallu is a micro off-grid community-operated and owned electricity utility located in District Luwu Utara, Sulawesi Selatan. This 12kW run-off-river MHP was commissioned on 1 December 2010 and since then it has generated around 173 MWh renewable energy, supplying 50 households, 1 mosque, 1 security post, 3 kiosks, and 3 rural businesses in the hamlet. The site was almost fully funded by the government’s national programme of community empowerment (PNPM) and technically supported by GIZ. The technical support comprised feasibility study, site verification, detailed engineering design, construction supervision, commissioning, also post-commissioning activities such as operator and village management team (VMT) training as well as sustainability monitoring through key performance indicator (KPI) survey and SMS-based monitoring.
