===================================== MHRD sets up panel, server located to Uttar Pradesh DC | Jose Kurian | 34 min 14 sec ago ===================================== SOURCE:-DC Kozhikode: The Union ministry of human resources development has set up a committee to fix accountability and take corrective measures in the wake of the CAT results fraud even as the State cyber cell traced the server in question to a city in Uttar Pradesh. DC reported on Friday that 80 scores of the CAT for admissions to IIM and other top business schools were found to be inflated, as available on catiim.in. A team, led by circle inspector Prakasan Padannayil, will leave for UP shortly and another team will leave for Rajasthan to locate the expert connected with Web Weavers, the web management company that hosted and managed the CAT website. The state cyber cell would give technical backup for the team; city commissioner G. Spargen Kumar is monitoring the probe. Kumar told Deccan Chronicle that the cyber cell was seized of the national importance of the probe. “The team would seize the computer hard disk used for data manipulation after a thorough analysis and cyber forensic experts’ services would used to get at the truth”, he said. IIMK, which showed due diligence in conducting the entire complex process, said in a release on Friday that 80 of 214,068 CAT 2012 scores published by M/s Web Weavers, Lucknow, were found to have discrepancies. Web Weavers’ association with IIMs started in CAT 2010. Based on an anonymous complaint, the CAT center investigated and found that the CAT scores of 80 candidates were inflated on the official site catiim.in. This web site is hosted and managed by M/s. Web Weavers. It must be noted that IIMK is not responsible for any manipulations on the website. In fact, immediately after receiving the anonymous complaint the CAT convener conducted an investigation in a timely manner and after identifying the discrepancies an FIR was lodged, based on which a police investigation is under way. IIMs are confident that whoever is found guilty of any unlawful acts would face legal consequences. It shall be noted that all the Institutes that use CAT scores for selection of candidates have been alerted. Subsequently, the CAT center has shared the CAT scores of the candidates from the master database to all the non-IIM Institutes who use CAT scores for their admission.
