MI House has just raced through voting on the multi-bill package that will provide road funding and put a proposal on the ballot which would actually increase(!) K-12 funding. More $$ for towns and cities, and restored Earned Income Tax Credit also part of the package. Plus, apparently, a bill just now changed to authorize a study of how much it costs to educate a child under current standards. (Presumably it is modeled on HB 5269, sponsored by Rep. Brandon Dillon and Rep. Ellen Lipton.) This has been quite a day (night), and parent advocates can feel good about the deal which was struck. Nothings perfect, but this is the first good news weve had in a while.
