MIDLANDS COMMENDED FOR PROTECTING DAIRY INDUSTRY Vice-President Joice Mujuru has said President Mugabe has hailed the Midlands Province for sparing white dairy farmers from compulsory land acquisition during the land reform programme.VP Mujuru said President Mugabe commended Justice Minister, Emmerson Mnangagwa for ensuring that the country was self-sufficient in its dairy needs. She was speaking during the Zanu-PF Midlands Women’s League provincial conference held at the party’s convention centre in Gweru. “The President is always full of praises of the Midlands Province for protecting the dairy industry during the land reform programme.Cde (Rugare) Gumbo, I always tell you that the President is full of praise for Cde Mnangagwa during Cabinet meetings for the role he played in ensuring that dairy farms are spared from compulsory land acquisition. “This has ensured that we are not importing milk when we have our own dairy farms in the country. I am therefore challenging you women to take part in these government initiated programmes to ensure that we are self sufficient in terms of food security,” VP Mujuru said. She said household food security was in line with the country’s economic blueprint, the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim-Asset) which falls under cluster one of food security and nutrition of the document. Speaking at the same occasion, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in the Midlands, Jason Machaya, said the province had made great strides towards ensuring food security. He said: “The province expects a bumper harvest in most districts. We had sufficient rains complemented by the Presidential Inputs. “The Land Reform Programme has played a pivotal role and as you are aware we have several farmers’ organisations to cater for those who have access to land. These are contributing immensely to the mainstream economy.” Politburo members and senior party members including Tsitsi Muzenda, Flora Bhuka, Sithembiso Nyoni, Shuvai Mahofa, Rugare Gumbo, Olivia Muchena and Oppah Muchinguri attended the party’s provincial conference.-Chronicle
