MIGHTY MEN OF VALOR--part three It just wouldnt do to not say something about how my Dad was built. He stood 64. His golf shoes were brown and white oxford wingtips, size 12D. To everyday work Dad wore brown leather wingtips. The muscles in Dads legs were long and thick and sinewy. His stomach was nice and flat. His wrists were so thick that we children couldnt get two hands around them. We could see the muscles move in his sinewy forearms when he flexed his hands. He made a bulge with his bicep like a softball, except more hard. I know he had good triceps, but I was so impressed with his biceps that I dont remember his triceps. His shoulders were broad. Dads face had chiseled features, which reminds me of the man in the Bible who set his face like a flint. Before he died, his hair was thick and wavy and silvery-gray. He was a man who was a formidable opponent in the boxing ring; everything about his build was ready for the fight. My Dad was built somewhere between Arnold Swarzennegger and Sylvester Stallone. Rocky would look like a wimp next to my Dad, and Arnold is muscle bound. Hes that way because he got most of his muscle from weight lifting, whereas Dad got his build from training exercise (like the heavy punching bag, the speed bag, and jump rope) and hard work when he was growing up. The mighty man of valor today is not necessarily built like my Dad. Thats because its more important to be ready to do spiritual battle with Satan and the dark angels. Now consider this: Jesus Christ is the greatest of the mighty men of valor. We can learn from Him how to do battle with Satan and having done all to stand. Lord willing, next week I will post about my Dads death and observations Ive made about mighty men of valor as seen in the Scripture.
