MIRPUR (AJK) - In the aftermath of a no-trust motion moved by two of the ruling-PPP legislators in AJK Legislative Assembly against Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, political activities in the AJK got impetus as majority of the stakeholders belonging to the main parliamentary parties, especially the PML-N, striving to make the move a complete success. The former AJK prime minister and the proposed nominee for new leader of the House Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry claimed to have the support of 32 members in 48-seat House to make the no-confidence motion against the incumbent PM. Talking to The Nation on Tuesday Barrister Sultan Mehmood Ch, who also belong to the treasury benches in the incumbent Legislative Assembly said that he had, time and again, raised voice against the massive corrupt, malpractices, irregularities, nepotism allegedly on the part of the sitting PM-led AJK government with the emphatic demand for reformation of the Majeed administration, but all of his hues and cries fell on deaf ears. He said that after Premier Majeed-led administration failed to address the grievances of the masses, he and his like-minded lawmakers on the treasury benches felt it better to move for a constitutional step to get the AJK people rid of a corrupt rule in form of the PM Majeed-led government through in-house change in the State legislative Assembly. Sultan asserted that he enjoyed the support of 32 out of exiting 48 members in 49-seat AJK Legislative Assembly to bring about an in-house change through making the no-trust motion a success. Elaborating the breakup of the lawmakers likely to support him for electing new leader of the house, Sultan Mehmood asserted that among those members of the assembly supporting him included at least 16 from the treasury benches and rest of 16 members belonging to the opposition parties including all 11 members of the PML-N and three of the Muslim Conference. THE PML-N AJK DECLARED TO SUPPORT TO NO-TRUST MOTION: The PML-N AJK, the main opposition party in the incumbent State legislative Assembly, Tuesday categorically declared to support the no-confidence motion submitted in the AJK Legislature, declaring Ch Tariq Farooq as the official spokesman of the parliamentary party and Deputy Leader of Opposition in the AJK Legislative Assembly. Talking to this Correspondent here on Tuesday that the parliamentary party of the PML (N) AJK, in its meeting held in Islamabad Tuesday morning with its President and leader of opposition in AJK Legislature Raja Farooq Haider Khan in the chair, decided to support the no-confidence motion submitted against the sitting Prime Minister Ch Majeed. Ch Tariq Farooq said that the PML-N AJK’s Parliamentary Party decided to support the no-trust motion after deliberation and conclusion that the incumbent government was given opportunities time and again by the opposition to reform its massively corrupt and irregular system of the administration - but all sincerely endeavours went in-vain. He alleged that Ch Majeed-led government ruined the democratic values, Kashmir freedom movement, rule of law and constitution through massively misusing powers. He blamed that the AJK’s sitting PPP-led coalition ruling clique massively misused the state resources for vested political interests of their (PPP) party before, during and after the recent general elections in the country. Tariq Farooq said that in the prevailing grim circumstance there was no option for the PML-N AJK except to support the no-confidence motion against the Majeed administration to throw him from power in the larger interests of the people of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. He said that the PML-N AJK parliamentary party had given powers to the party’s President Raja Farooq Haider to move for future course of action to this direction. When contacted, Secretary General of PML (N) AJK and former Speaker of AJK Legislative Assembly Shah Ghulam Qadir told this scribe on Tuesday that the Parliamentary Party of the PML-N in its meeting in Islamabad Tuesday morning with the party’s President and former AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider in the chair, devised the strategy vis-à-vis supporting the no-trust motion during the forthcoming session of the AJK Legislative Assembly. He said that the AJK Legislative Assembly Speaker should, by now, summon the AJK Legislative assembly to meet for formal deliberation over the no-confidence motion moved against the sitting Prime Minister Ch. Abdul Majeed of PPP. “Under Act - 1974, the interim constitution of AJK, the Speaker is bound to summon the session of the AJK Legislative Assembly within seven days after submission of the no-trust motion against sitting leader of the house”, according to the legal and constitutional experts. Despite repeated attempts to establish contact by cell phone to invite his party’s course of action and view point in or against the no-trust motion, the former AJK Prime Minister and the parliamentary leader of his Muslim Conference in AJK Legislative Assembly Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan could not be contacted - since all the repeated phone calls went unattended. Meanwhile, when contacted, an official of the AJK Legislative Assembly Secretariat told The Nation over telephone Tuesday with condition of anonymity that any schedule about holding of the next session of the AJK Legislative Assembly.
