Those of us who are Veterans (who served our country in any capacity) and our current military as well as our families have the strongest voice in numbers (almost 24 million Veterans) to exercise in the ballot booth but also to rally in causes to perpetuate our freedoms, and most importantly to care and protect those who serve and served as our nations defenders and their respective families. The establishment of March 29th Vietnam Veterans Day causes/causes/654657 and Senate Bill S.409 govtrack.us/congress/bills/113/s409 is one opportunity to bring about this healing but sadly Senator Patrick Leahy, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has been sitting on it for over a year – call his offices DC (202) 224-4242 and VERMONT (802) 863-2525 and also call your Senators through the govtrack website link if they are not listed as cosponsors. We will always have variant opinions about the merits of whatever action our country is involved in but those who answer the call to serve our nation should never be abandoned while in harm’s way and when they return. Let us finish delivering the tribute and gratitude to those who have earned it during the Vietnam War and Era and focus to make sure that those who served and serve afterward experience every day the gratitude and respect of this nation and its citizens. History can be written about and discussed but it cannot be experienced again except in the minds and hearts of those who paid the price of being there. Quit talking about it and do some about it, preserve a legacy and leave a legacy, it is our individual responsibility to make sure bad history does not repeat itself.
