MLC Rick Mazzas (Shooters and Fishers Party Politican) talk in WA - TopicsExpress

MLC Rick Mazzas (Shooters and Fishers Party Politican) talk in WA Parliament - Here he is using his position to exert pressure to relieve RSPCA of their responsibility for livestock and asks that Government take more control of the RSPCA. (RSPCA work in WA with Department of Agriculture to investigate and prosecute in Live Stock Welfare and Cruelty Cases). His position is in response to RSPCA being opposed to Live Export - so now he calls for them to be scrapped of responsibility for Live Stock in Australia. The removal of responsibility for Live Stock is what has happened in Victoria and Qld, both RSPCAs in both states have no responsibility over livestock. His talk is misleading, based on his industry alliance and is a political witch hunt. He has used Non Government Business time to have his agenda heard. He is calling this organisations stance reflecting community values, and based on their Animal Welfare position - extreme animal activism. RSPCA is a COMMUNITY charity that reflects Community Values and Expectations on Animal Welfare - and their stance on Live Export is reflective of what is being strongly echoed with every day people being on the board, Farmers, Councillors, business owners, parents, etc all members of the RSPCA. RSPCA have reiterated they are not anti agriculture (in fact they have Farmers on their board), and they work with Producers, and have this week joined in discussions with the Live Export Industry about Animal Welfare issues. Rick Mazza is asking that this charity be silenced in W.A and be completely delegated by Government as to what they can advocate for. He leads into saying that the RSPCA have power that needs investigating and talks about their role in ANIMAL WELFARE. Rick Mazzas National Party Leader Trophy Hunts Elephants in Africa. (Kills elephants for pleasure). Rick Mazza wants to open State and Protected National Parks for Recreational Hunting. Rick Mazza wants to fish in protected Marine Sanctuaries. Rick Mazza wants more places for gun owners to be able to shoot and hunt. Lynn MacLaren Greens MLC WA is strongly opposed to the motion instigated by Mr Mazza asking the state government to rethink its $500,000 contribution to RSPCA because the RSPCA are advocating against live export trade. “As the Greens spokesperson for Animal Welfare I work frequently with the RSPCA. I can confirm that the RSPCA are absolutely a credible organisation, they have not lost community respect and they have certainly maintained their core values,” she said. RSCPA national president Lynne Bradshaw responded and said the RSPCA was not a vegan or vegetarian organisation and it seemed a small section of the agricultural community was trying to discredit the society. We are not anti-farming and we are not against people eating meat, Ms Bradshaw said. The RSPCA is an animal welfare organisation. Along with the huge amount of work we do protecting and caring for companion animals through our shelters, enforcing the Animal Welfare Act through our inspectorate teams and caring for injured wildlife we also run the Approved Farming Scheme which is a set of higher welfare standards for the care of layer hens, pigs, meat chickens and turkeys.
