MOEED PIRZADA, you said it right :) “The evidence won’t take long and the decision will be made quickly by the special court,”. The punishment can either be death penalty or life imprisonment in this case,” he added - Attorney General, Munir A Malik. Comment: Very interesting! while in this Kingdom of God we are unable to complete in several years the trials of multiple murders, gang rapes, pedophiles or the terrorists who have vaporized thousands, with their flesh bones and dreams, into thin air our Attorney General is promising death or life imprisonment for the Ex-President & Military Chief who boldly symbolized Pakistani nation across the world - from Camp David to Brussels to Delhi- through a quick decision...how interesting? The Special court handpicked by Hon. Chief Justice and PM Nawaz Sharif has already started to look less than independent; lawyers are pointing out that Justice Yawar Ali is a close family relative of Justice Ramday, and who does not know the special relationship between Justice Ramday and Hon. Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudry...Are we being taken for a ride in the name of constitution and justice? Are we that stupid that we cannot see a personal witch hunt and vendetta being settled at public expense in the name of public and constitution? What we need in Pakistan is a high powered commission that should start its investigation into the cause of military intervention from Oct 1999; if we are really serious in making military interventions a relic of the past then we need to address the causes of how and why it happens? Commission should summon all those players/characters who were instrumental in the coup of 1999, why they did what they did? Why almost all political parties, media houses, columnists, editors, civil society organizations welcomed the overthrow of the government? Why the Supreme Court in Zafar Ali Shah Case of 2000, while invoking the Doctrine of State Necessity wrote that in Oct 1999, PM Nawaz Sharif had lost all moral and constitutional authority? Supreme Court also examined the evidence that there were no public protests, demonstrations against the overthrow of the Nawaz Government (All of you should read this landmark judgment; its available on net) The current Hon. Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was part of the bench that wrote that historic decision. If we are honest then we have to pass through this process of enquiry, Why fear a Pandora box? All those who aspire for important role in public life are answerable to history and let this process begin otherwise it will look like a witch hunt for personal revenge and will further damage the Pakistani nation and polity...M
