MOM SPEAKS: Alert issued for missing 2-year old and teen mother SIMPSON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) - The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has issued an Endangered/Missing Child Alert for two-year-old Zane Alexander Walters and his 17-year-old mother Erica Leeanne Walters. Saturday was supposed to be a day of celebration. Zane just had a birthday. His birthday was Wednesday, he turned two. His little birthday party was (supposed to be) today at 4, said Angel Walters, Ericas mom and Zanes grandma. Circumstances quickly changed though. Now, 17-year-old Erica Walters and Zane are missing, believed to be kidnapped by the Ericas ex-boyfriend. Now, 17-year-old Dakota Thornton is wanted on two counts of kidnapping. I just want them to bring her home dont hurt her, said Walters. Walters fears her daughter and grandchild could be in extreme danger in the hands of Thornton who is possibly armed with a gun. I dont know what hes going to do to her. Hes been threatening her for months that he was going to kill her, said Walters. Simpson County Sheriffs Investigator Donny McGovern believes Erica and Zane were last seen inside of a 2014 black Chevy Impala at the Fast Mart gas station on Highway 49 in Magee. It appears the female Erica is driving, but the one in the front passenger seat never got out of the vehicle, said McGovern. McGovern also said there has been unauthorized use of a credit card that Erica Walters had with her. The card belongs to Ericas mother and authorities say it was used at a Regions Bank. McGovern said a subpoena will have to be obtained so that authorities can determine where specifically the card was used. Its believed that two males, Thornton and another unidentified male were with the mom and son. Angel said Erica reached out to her brother for help. She had text him and told him to get his gun and get her because Dakota had a gun on her and the baby, said Walters. Investigator McGovern said he could not see a gun on the surveillance tape, but thats only because you cant see inside of the car. Ericas brother arrived at the gas station in a white pick-up truck. He pulled in front of the Impala, ran out of his truck and then the driver of the Impala sped off. The brother followed them in pursuit of them and he lost sight of them, said Investigator McGovern. Zane and Erica are listed as missing through the NCIC. The FBI and several other agencies are also assisting with the search. Zane Walters is described as a white male with short blonde hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing Sponge Bob pajamas (shirt with the cartoon character on it and pants with multiple images of Sponge Bob). Erica Leeanne Walters is described as a white female with shoulder-length brown hair with blonde and red highlights and hazel eyes. She is 53 tall and weighs 120 pounds and was wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt. Dakota Thornton is described as a white male with brown hair. He was last seen wearing a red and white striped shirt. They were traveling in Simpson County southbound on Highway 49. The Chevrolet Impala has Mississippi license plate SMI 053.
