MON NEWS BRIEF…. 23 09 2013 Editor’s Pick – Item # 3 ONE SOME VILLAGERS IN KAANDE AND KASIMA AREAS OF MONGU REPORTEDLY PICKING DUMPED MEAT PRODUCTS FOR FOOD Some residents of Kasima and Kaande areas in Mongu district are reportedly picking condemned meat products dumped by a beef company in the area between the two communities. Reuben Lungulela, a resident of Kasima area disclosed this to Oblate Radio Liseli News and appealed to such a company to desist from the act as ignorant residents were now picking up the condemned stuff for food. Mr. Lungulela appealed to the alleged company to consider burning the meat products to avoid an out-break of diseases as a result of the act. In a related development, Mr. Lungulela has lamented that Kasima area has been turned into a dumping place for all sought of garbage produced from Mongu town…. TWO MALUPENGA THANKS AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK FOR CHOOSING TO SUPPORT WATER AND SANITATION PROJECTS IN WP Western Province Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga has thanked the African Development Bank for choosing to support the province in the rural water supply sanitation sub-sector. Speaking when he was paid a courtesy call by the bank officials today, Mr. Malupenga said government profoundly values their support especially that access to adequate and safe drinking water and adequate sanitation is still very low in the province. The PS said the coming of African Development Bank to the province will greatly help the region attain the millennium development goals and reduce the high poverty levels currently prevailing in the province. He said the provision of clean and safe drinking water and adequate sanitation is one of the priority interventions of government in the overall goal of alleviating poverty and promote sustainable economic development…. THREE FARMERS IN WP ADVIZED TO START FARMING ACTIVITIES BY END OF NOVEMBER 2013 The Meteorology Department in Western Province says the province will have normal to above normal rainfall on average for the seasonal forecast for 2013-2014. Provincial Meteorological Officer Martin Swaswa told Oblate Radio Liseli news in an interview with that the current long term weather focused is broken into two segments. Mr. Swaswa mentioned the segments as October, November, December 2013 when there will be an indication of normal rainfall pattern and January, February, March which will receive normal to above normal rainfall particularly in the northern parts of districts in the province. He said this implies that if the province gets normal rains in the first and second segment, it will mean that at the end of the season the region would record normal to above normal rainfall pattern. Mr. Swaswa noted that during the rain season, growing season is one of the major issues which should be put into the consideration and appealed to farmers to hold on for end of November to start farming activities.
