MONDAY MYTH BUSTER... Many people believe ostrich bury their heads in the sand if feeling threatened however this is untrue! It is actually an optical illusion! Despite their large size they have a very small head in comparison to their bodies. When observing these birds picking up objects from the floor or turning the eggs within their nest at a distance it can very much look like their head is buried under the sand. Ostriches can be seen digging holes in the dirt that will later be used as nests for their eggs. Throughout the day the birds will pop their head in the hole to turn the eggs. So it really does look like the birds are burying their heads in the sand!
