MOSSEL BAY VIOLENCE COULD AFFECT BYE-ELECTION: As the service delivery protest in Mossel bay enters its third day, the IEC fears that the bye-election of ward 13 could suffer due to the violent protests. Ward 13 was declared vacant after the party membership of DA councilor, Susan Moodie was suspended. The DA, ANC and ICOSA will be contesting. The IEC representative, Courtney Sampson, said they are working closely with the SAPS to ensure that voting can take place unhindered. Over 200 000 registered voters in 25 wards throughout the nine provinces are expected to cast their votes in bye-elections today. The scale of the polls, which includes bye-elections in a number of wards in metro councils in Johannesburg, Tshwane, Cape Town, Nelson Mandela Bay and Mangaung, makes todays elections one of the largest mobilisation of voters outside of general elections, the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) said in a statement on Tuesday.
